Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh.

George was born in Edinburgh 1935. He attended James Gillespie’s Boys School and Royal High School. A keen sportsman he was the Scottish Schools Junior ½ mile Champion 1954; and is the Royal High School ½ mile record holder to this day!

He served in the Royal Army Ordinance Corps for two years and was ordained a minister in 1962 in Stoke-on-Trent and became Squadron Leader Chaplain in the Royal Air Force 1962-70;  serving in Cosford then three years in Nicosia, Cyprus (during that time touring Tehran, Aidan, Malta and Tripoli). Latterly he was Parish Minister at Craigsbank Parish Church from 1971 until recently. He married Liz in 1960 and they have a son and a daughter and six grandchildren. He was elected as Councillor for Queensferry in 1999.
